Rise Above

The first year of of art education classes to the youth at Safe Place Homeless Shelter, run by the Boys and Girls Aid Society. Tuesday evenings from 6:30-8:00 youth participate in art classes that offer a variety of mediums and projects. Each youth is also provided a sketch book that they can use on their own time to develop their art skills and express themselves through art. Alice Hill, the lead teacher of this program, is dedicated to working with at risk children and youth, teaching them the value of art, and how it can be used as tool for success in their lives. An art show from this program with take place in March in conjunction with the another at risk art program (Miller Ed) at the Walters Cultural arts center. Showtime at Shute

HCA's original series features concerts in Shute Park every Thursday evening throughout July and August. From the high energy of world-class jazz and blues to the smooth sounds of the big band era, the summer concerts provide evenings of lively entertainment for everyone, attracting thousands each season. Bring a lawn chair and a picnic basket and enjoy a relaxed evening of fine music presented in a beautiful park setting. Calendar of Events

Arts Education Scholarships

Almost every year scholarships are awarded to graduating Hillsboro area high school seniors who desire to pursue an advanced arts education. Contact HCA for more information and an application.

Adopt a Musical Instrument Program (AAMIP)

Donations of new and used band instruments go to children who cannot afford renting or purchasing an instrument. For information on donating, view the AAMIP flier. To apply for an instrument, contact Julie at (503) 648-5247.
